First ice cream of the season/ in a year! It seems like everyone has forgotten how to drive, but ample hills ice cream and an evening with @explore_galore made the trek worth it.

I’ve had lots of feelings about coming into school this past year, but sometimes it’s nice to have a reason to dress up. Also, love the “Wrong Asian” pin @nayantara gave me a few years back.

A year ago today CUT TO BLOOM came out in the midst of a pandemic and a growing sense of distrust, fear, and anxiety. Anything related to the book has been such a balm and gift during such an intense year, starting with the book launch with the incredible Abena Koomson-Davis (@vandavis.band), Jeanann Verlee (@jeaverlee), and Phil Kaye (@peekaye), the virtual book tour/dreamy chance to read with some of my most-adored writers dubbed the Little Lights Reading Series, and the generous and kind readers who read and talked about the book, or wrote to tell me they saw some part of their story reflected and perhaps even a little less alone in this world. I am especially grateful to my family and author ancestors who helped me believe I could claim space with my stories. This book wouldn’t be possible without their bravery, their relentless trailblazing, their generous illuminated hearts and all the ways they’ve held me as I’ve grown and become more myself. The last photo is of a signed copy of the first Ocean Vuong book, and a tribute to all the queer and Asian American writers who have helped strengthen and ground my voice, who helped me believe I deserve to be here, just as I am. @writebloodypublishing, thank you for believing in me, in this book.
